Here is some information that I have gathered about the second generation iphone. A quick question and answer post.
If I have an Iphone already do I have to sign a new contract to get the 3G?
The answer is yes, if you want to upgrade, you will need to sign a new contract. You will pay $199 for the 8 GB and $299 for the 16 GB.
Will I finally be able to replace the battery on my new Apple Iphone?
Once again you will not be able to replace your battery if you need to. Well there are ways to do it if you have the confidence to crack it open. But it is not for the weak at heart if you attempt it.
Will the Iphone have picture messaging?
Unless you do it via your email client, the answer is no. But hey just do it through your email. Yeah you’re right, that is kind of sucky.
Will the Apple Iphone ever be available for another carrier besides AT&T?
Before 2012, um no. Sorry.
And now the biggie. Will I be able to purchase this cell phone with out a contract?
The answer to this answer especially saddens me, but no you will not. Whether you purchase it at AT&T or the Apple Store you must get it activated for service. Now this is interesting because I am curious to see how this will affect the segment of the country that had an unlocked iphone. About roughly 25% of the iphones sold here in the US were being used for the T-Mobile network.
I guess in theory, someone could buy the new Iphone, activate, then cancel their contract during the 14 day trial period, then get the iphone unlocked for T-Mobile, or sell it someone else. I do know that Apple and AT&T both have a vested interest in making sure that those phones stay locked.
Also I forgot to mention that the data plans for the 3G will increase $10 extra a month. So despite the fact that AT&T is eating $200 of the cost of the iphone, they will make a total of about $30 extra on the back end. I will continue to post updates as I get them.

Today I will be briefly reviewing the Blackberry Curve. This is a high end phone release by Research in Motion (RIM)for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Alltel, and Verizon. This phones closet competitor is probably only the Apple Iphone. Blackberry is a huge hit among corporate executives and overall smart phone lovers alike.
The GSM version of the Blackberry Curve has gps for navigational applications. It has a stunning 2.0 megapixel camera, and bluetooth capability. Its push email system is second to none in terms of setting up and overall experience. I am currently using a Treo 700p for Alltel, and I must say that even the mighty Treo doesn’t hold a candle to RIM’s emailing system. The blackberry curve is also a music player so if you are riding on a gas scooter, you can listen to your tunes if you have some ear phones.
The one thing I like about this cell phone over the iphone, is the QWERTY keyboard. I have meaty fingers and typing on the iphone’s touchscreen is a chore for me. My wife loves it however, but I digress.
Its funny because as picky as we are about our cell phones, it was hard for me to find one single con. Then only con that I saw was that it didn’t capture video. Other than that, the reviews I saw for it has people raving mad. In a good way of course.
Will Blackberry crank out more phones like this to rival the soon to be release second generation iphone? That remains to be seen. However, the Curve appears to be king of Blackberry mountain.
Here is the current status on new Iphone Release. Insiders widely believe that the new apple iphone will be unveiled at Apple’s developers conference on June 9. Then we should see if the second generation iphone has undergone any drastic changes to the design. Some of the rumors that I have seen floating around is that this version will now have a plastic back instead of the metal one. Also it is rumored that this incarnation will be lighter.
I am not sure when the Iphone SDK (software developer kit) will be released, or if it has been already, but with the capabilities to operate on the 3G network, look forward to some lightning fast internet applications. Also be on the look out for a slew of programs to allow users to have an unlocked iphone if they so choose. I will do some research to see if the Iphone SDK has been released already for the 3G. And I will report it if I find out for sure. If any of you no if it has been released please post it in the comments below.
Also while I am talking about the status on new iphone release, I am hearing buzz, that Apple Stores all over the country are reporting to be out of the current Apple Iphone. If you read my other article about the release of the new iphone, I said that they would be halting distribution to get the appetites ready for the 3G release.
Have their been any iphone complaints regarding this practice? Who knows, I went to an Apple Store here in Tampa where I live just to find out for myself, and yes they were sold out. Its a great plan to me. I am also preparing myself for the flood of first generation iphones to flood the market for my used cell phone business. I just want to mention right now that I also like the blackberry curve. What does the blackberry curve have to do with this article? Absolutely nothing. Sorry just experimenting with something involving the blackberry curve and this blog.
Anyway, back to the Apple Iphone release, it is still tentatively scheduled for the end of June. We shall see if it will ship on time. Though I haven’t heard any talk of any delays. I am curious to see if there will be people lining up to be the first ones to get this phone like last year. In the meantime if you desire to get one of these phones, I suggest that you stock up on your expandable memory for iphone. Those little memory sticks are getting cheaper and cheaper. And the iphone has so many functions, that it does replace a lot of devices. I have seen the iphone clone, cect p168. The iphone clone sucks, but not that bad actually.
Make sure if you found this post and you want to read about unlock iphone, just breeze through the archives. Anyway that is all I know about the current status of the new second generation iphone.
