Cell Phone News | Verizon Deals For Alltel

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

The cell phone industry has been rocked by the announcement a little over a week ago that Verizon has put together a deal to purchase Alltel. This Verizon deal would make Verizon the largest cell phone provider in the country, a spot formerly help by At&t Wireless. So what does this mean for current Alltel customers? At the moment no one is really sure. The deal is set to be finalized at the end of the year.

This of course affects me personally because I have stated on here before that I am a proud Alltel subscriber. I am not really excited about the news. I could have easily went with Verizon but I have been very please with the service I have gotten from Alltel. Will Verizon keep mycircle? I am a big fan of the mycircle plan. If you aren’t familiar with the my circle plan, basically it is a plan that allows you to call any 5, 10 or 20 numbers in the US for no extra charge. If you are familiar with mobile to mobile minutes, it is like that except they don’t have to be Alltel subscribers. You choose the numbers you want to be free.

At this moment, I believe Verizon has it where you have mobile to mobile with other Verizon subscribers, and you can call your house if you have Verizon landline. Neither company is really known for selling discount cell phones, as they both usually have the same phones.

I know more details will trickle out as the days and months go buy, but I hope that Verizon remembers some of what made Alltel popular in the first place.
