The LG enV2 is an attractive phone for the young text messaging set. From a full QWERTY keyboard to a number of multimedia features and even 3G support, the LG enV2 is a great choice for anyone who likes to send text messages. While that phone felt clunky, like a big toy, phone is elegant and compact. That said this phone is a better all around device, with better image and video capture, better messaging capabilities with the full QWERTY keyboard and better multimedia capabilities.

Like its predecessor, the enV2 doesn’t look like much when you initially glance at it. The enV2’s GPS functionality is an extra luxury, however you will have to utilize Verizon’s Navigator software, which costs $9. The enV2 still has a enormous Internal display, but the external display is shrunk down and the full QWERTY keyboard is squeezed smaller. Like most V CAST phones, the phone comes with an MP3 player that supports MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+ formats. But beyond being a phone, this cell phone is like carrying around a miniature laptop.

The LG enV2, sans the big camera lens and the autofocus, takes good photos that are competitive with other 2 megapixel camera phones currently on the market but aren’t as good as the enV’s. Like other high end LG phones on Verizon including the the LG VX9800 and LG VX8300, the VX9900 has voice command software and text to speech. The speakers on this thing are amazing for such a tiny device, they are very loud, only downside is that when you plug headphones(2.

Aside from the new look, the LG NV2 is loaded with a number of features that Verizon Wireless customers and LG phone users, have grown to love and like. Sadly, you may have a hard time loading up websites other than Verizon’s affiliated web partners.

Don’t expect the Env2 cell phone to compete with the LG Voyager, but if you want a lower-end, smaller, and sleeker alternative to the Voyager touchscreen-monster, the LG enV 2 should do you just fine.

This cell phone supports SMS, MMS for picture and video messaging, mobile email and web-based email as well as mobile IM. The enV2’s camera can also take video with audio at 320 x 240, 176 x 144 (default) resolutions in either MMS length or max length limited by available storage. Discount cell phones.

The cell phone industry has been rocked by the announcement a little over a week ago that Verizon has put together a deal to purchase Alltel. This Verizon deal would make Verizon the largest cell phone provider in the country, a spot formerly help by At&t Wireless. So what does this mean for current Alltel customers? At the moment no one is really sure. The deal is set to be finalized at the end of the year.

This of course affects me personally because I have stated on here before that I am a proud Alltel subscriber. I am not really excited about the news. I could have easily went with Verizon but I have been very please with the service I have gotten from Alltel. Will Verizon keep mycircle? I am a big fan of the mycircle plan. If you aren’t familiar with the my circle plan, basically it is a plan that allows you to call any 5, 10 or 20 numbers in the US for no extra charge. If you are familiar with mobile to mobile minutes, it is like that except they don’t have to be Alltel subscribers. You choose the numbers you want to be free.

At this moment, I believe Verizon has it where you have mobile to mobile with other Verizon subscribers, and you can call your house if you have Verizon landline. Neither company is really known for selling discount cell phones, as they both usually have the same phones.

I know more details will trickle out as the days and months go buy, but I hope that Verizon remembers some of what made Alltel popular in the first place.

Here is some information that I have gathered about the second generation iphone. A quick question and answer post.

If I have an Iphone already do I have to sign a new contract to get the 3G?
The answer is yes, if you want to upgrade, you will need to sign a new contract. You will pay $199 for the 8 GB and $299 for the 16 GB.

Will I finally be able to replace the battery on my new Apple Iphone?
Once again you will not be able to replace your battery if you need to. Well there are ways to do it if you have the confidence to crack it open. But it is not for the weak at heart if you attempt it.

Will the Iphone have picture messaging?
Unless you do it via your email client, the answer is no. But hey just do it through your email. Yeah you’re right, that is kind of sucky.

Will the Apple Iphone ever be available for another carrier besides AT&T?
Before 2012, um no. Sorry.

And now the biggie. Will I be able to purchase this cell phone with out a contract?
The answer to this answer especially saddens me, but no you will not. Whether you purchase it at AT&T or the Apple Store you must get it activated for service. Now this is interesting because I am curious to see how this will affect the segment of the country that had an unlocked iphone. About roughly 25% of the iphones sold here in the US were being used for the T-Mobile network.

I guess in theory, someone could buy the new Iphone, activate, then cancel their contract during the 14 day trial period, then get the iphone unlocked for T-Mobile, or sell it someone else. I do know that Apple and AT&T both have a vested interest in making sure that those phones stay locked.

Also I forgot to mention that the data plans for the 3G will increase $10 extra a month. So despite the fact that AT&T is eating $200 of the cost of the iphone, they will make a total of about $30 extra on the back end. I will continue to post updates as I get them.

Today I will be briefly reviewing the Blackberry Curve. This is a high end phone release by Research in Motion (RIM)for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Alltel, and Verizon. This phones closet competitor is probably only the Apple Iphone. Blackberry is a huge hit among corporate executives and overall smart phone lovers alike.

The GSM version of the Blackberry Curve has gps for navigational applications. It has a stunning 2.0 megapixel camera, and bluetooth capability. Its push email system is second to none in terms of setting up and overall experience. I am currently using a Treo 700p for Alltel, and I must say that even the mighty Treo doesn’t hold a candle to RIM’s emailing system. The blackberry curve is also a music player so if you are riding on a gas scooter, you can listen to your tunes if you have some ear phones.

The one thing I like about this cell phone over the iphone, is the QWERTY keyboard. I have meaty fingers and typing on the iphone’s touchscreen is a chore for me. My wife loves it however, but I digress.

Its funny because as picky as we are about our cell phones, it was hard for me to find one single con. Then only con that I saw was that it didn’t capture video. Other than that, the reviews I saw for it has people raving mad. In a good way of course.

Will Blackberry crank out more phones like this to rival the soon to be release second generation iphone? That remains to be seen. However, the Curve appears to be king of Blackberry mountain.

Here is the current status on new Iphone Release. Insiders widely believe that the new apple iphone will be unveiled at Apple’s developers conference on June 9. Then we should see if the second generation iphone has undergone any drastic changes to the design. Some of the rumors that I have seen floating around is that this version will now have a plastic back instead of the metal one. Also it is rumored that this incarnation will be lighter.

I am not sure when the Iphone SDK (software developer kit) will be released, or if it has been already, but with the capabilities to operate on the 3G network, look forward to some lightning fast internet applications. Also be on the look out for a slew of programs to allow users to have an unlocked iphone if they so choose. I will do some research to see if the Iphone SDK has been released already for the 3G. And I will report it if I find out for sure. If any of you no if it has been released please post it in the comments below.

Also while I am talking about the status on new iphone release, I am hearing buzz, that Apple Stores all over the country are reporting to be out of the current Apple Iphone. If you read my other article about the release of the new iphone, I said that they would be halting distribution to get the appetites ready for the 3G release.

Have their been any iphone complaints regarding this practice? Who knows, I went to an Apple Store here in Tampa where I live just to find out for myself, and yes they were sold out. Its a great plan to me. I am also preparing myself for the flood of first generation iphones to flood the market for my used cell phone business. I just want to mention right now that I also like the blackberry curve. What does the blackberry curve have to do with this article? Absolutely nothing. Sorry just experimenting with something involving the blackberry curve and this blog.

Anyway, back to the Apple Iphone release, it is still tentatively scheduled for the end of June. We shall see if it will ship on time. Though I haven’t heard any talk of any delays. I am curious to see if there will be people lining up to be the first ones to get this phone like last year. In the meantime if you desire to get one of these phones, I suggest that you stock up on your expandable memory for iphone. Those little memory sticks are getting cheaper and cheaper. And the iphone has so many functions, that it does replace a lot of devices. I have seen the iphone clone, cect p168. The iphone clone sucks, but not that bad actually.

Make sure if you found this post and you want to read about unlock iphone, just breeze through the archives. Anyway that is all I know about the current status of the new second generation iphone.

I have a quick tip today on how to put your Apple Iphone into recovery mode. I see this question rather frequently in various cell phone forums I hang out in so thought I would post a quickie tip right here. To put your Iphone into recovery mode is real simple.

1. First you make sure your Iphone is powered all the way off.

2. You hold down the home/ menu button and at the same time connect your iphone to your computer. Your Itunes will then say that it has found an Iphone in recovery mode and bam you’re done.

Now for those who don’t know why this information is helpful, there is a lot of software and downloads available for your Apple Iphone. Unfortunately, like all software, not all of it is good. And if you get caught with some bad Iphone software you will have to do a system restore. In the mean time your cell phone may have been crippled or disabled some kind of way and you will need to put it into recovery mode in order to do a factory restore.

So that is how you put your apple iphone into recover mode, I hope you found it useful.

By the way you can find some Apple Iphones for sale here, if you have not yet gotten this fantastic phone.

Should America’s children have cell phones in school? Lets think about the world we live in. We live in a world where maniacs don’t hesitate to shoot up schools. We live in a world where some weirdo pervert won’t hesitate to snatch up innocent kids coming to and from school. But on the flip side todays children are smarter than the children of the last generation. The majority of schools have a no cell phones policy due to the fact that some children use their phones for cheating on exams, talking to their friends during class time, and the new phenomenon of sending an obscene amount of text messages back and forth to each other.

Now how do we balance our children’s safety with the need to make sure that they are learning when they are at school. While there is no perfect cell phone for kids, I think that with a little research you can find the right cell phone for kids. You can use the Jitterbug which started out as a phone for kids but has evolved into a phone for those who just want a phone with no frills and no thrills. There are also several pay as you go options that can help make sure that you are in control for the most part. But whether you pick a pay as you go option or any other cell phone option the important point is your child’s safety.

Now do I think there should be cell phones in school? You better believe it. I also believe that college students with gun permits should be allowed to have there weapons on campus but that is another article. The fact of the matter is, the times have changed and we should make sure that our kids can get a hold of us if they need to. I don’t have any children yet but when I do, if they aren’t allow yet, my kid will still have a phone. And he or she better answer when I call to lol! When I was in junior high school my mom made sure I had a beeper so she could keep tabs on me. She was and still is a great mom.

I really hope that the schools will modify they’re no cell phone policies but if they don’t, the parents should have the final say. You should demand the final say. Please tell me in the comments how you feel about cell phones in school.

So you decided that you want or need to replace your cell phone and you don’t want to pay the ridiculous prices to buy it brand new. Well here are some tips that will help you make sure that you don’t get ripped off and get the best value for your money. These tips will help whether you’re buying an apple iphone, a pocket pc, or what ever cell phone you decide to get, you won’t regret it at the end of the day.

Before you plunk down cash for a used phone, remove the battery cover and look for a red dot. If you don’t see a red dot look for a white dot. If you don’t see the white dot ask what happened to the white dot. That white circular dot about the size of a hole punch on a piece of paper lets you know if the phone has been wet before or not. If you find a phone that works and the dot is red, it may not give you any problems but it will give you something to think about.

Do not pay extra for a charger for a phone that costs you more than $30. Some cell phone dealers I know will try to rip their customers off and try to nickel and dime them to death by charging them extra for things that should be included. If your phone cost less than $30, then go ahead and pay for the charger. I charge $10 for after market chargers by the way so hopefully that is around what you will find or maybe cheaper.

Always, always, always test the phone fully before you leave the store you are at. If the dealer will not let you test the cameras, and the ringtones, and do a test call and everything else, then leave the store. I will let a customer test a phone for 30 minutes if necessary and I encourage it.

Make sure you check to see that the phone charges. Especially if you purchase some Sony Ericsson cell phones. They have the dumbest charging ports of all the brands and it is easy to tear up if you don’t properly know how to insert and remove the charger.

If you are buying a Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, Metro Pcs, US Cellular, Cricket, or any other CDMA carrier, dial 611 and try to change it over right there in the store. You are doing this to make sure that the dealer isn’t selling you a phone with a bad ESN. I know Metro PCS ESN’s stay bad for about 2 months then you can activate them, the rest especially Sprint, Verizon, and Alltel should be considered as paper weights unless you know someone that can do something naughty with the ESNs. T-Mobile, AT&T, and Nextel you should be good to go. Unless you want to add insurance then you could possibly run into a problem with the IMEI numbers.

Speaking of insurance, don’t insure a used phone! It is a waste of your time. And sometimes the carrier won’t even do it anyway.

Unlocked phones with the exception of the Apple Iphone and maybe a few others, will give you problems when it comes to using all of the features. You should expect some problems with getting on the internet or sending multi media messages sometimes on some unlocked phones. Each cell phone is different but just expect that.

Update June 9, 2008: Apple announced today that the Apple Iphone has been pushed back to July 11, 2008.

The new Apple Iphone release date has been announced! It will correspond with the one year anniversary of the wildly successful initial Iphone launch. (edit: I somehow forgot to add the date initially! The date for the new Iphone release is June 27, 2008 as of right now.) This phone version will be ready to run on AT&T’s much faster 3G network. Allowing for faster internet speeds. Also according to sources, a few weeks prior to the release of the new Apple Iphone, Apple will remove all remaining stock from the market to help boost demand.

These new Iphones will be available in 8 gigabytes and 16 gigabytes. Now here is the best news. In an effort to help boost demand, AT&T will be footing $200 of the cost. What does this mean? This means that instead of paying $399 for the 8 GB Iphone or $499 for the 16 GB, you will only have to pay $199 or $299 respectively. This deal will only be available for those who are signing NEW two year contracts with AT&T. This offer WILL NOT be available at the Apple Stores. At least not as of right now.

My two cents

While I am happy about the price dropping on anything, at my store the number one requested phone is the Iphone. Now the last time I saw a demand for a phone was when the original Motorola V3 Razr was first released. It was initially $500. Then the price drops occured and soon everyone had one making it Motorola’s best selling phone of all time. However the market is oversaturated with Motorola Razrs. The same fate awaits the Apple Iphone I am afraid.

Everyone wants one, and soon everyone will be able to afford one. (Not to mention 25% of unlocked Apple Iphones that are on the market.) From a consumer standpoint, that is exciting news as I would never pay more than $150 for a phone. I don’t care what it was but that is just me. Soon the Apple Iphone will hit mainstream status, then no one will want it anymore. Maybe. The thing about Steve Jobs, and Apple, he just may find a way to keep everyone coming back for more.

The polls are closed, the votes are in. I am glad to proudly present the 10 hottest cell phones of all time. I solicited the help of you wonder full readers in “I need your help”. The feed back was great and I am now to present to you my purely subjective list! LOL! Some of the things I looked at were overall impact on the cell phone industry as a whole. The cool factor. Demand and market saturation, and my personal opinion.

I am going to break this cell phone list up over the next 5 days so I won’t have one super long post, also to add suspense, and lastly, to buy time to find the next story! So without further delay the 10 Hottest Cell Phones of All Time, number 10

Number 10 - Motorola StarTAC

This phone released in 1996 was the very first flip phone. Rank 6 on PC Worlds 2005 The 50 Greatest Gadgets of the Past 50 Years. List it is hard not to give this iconic cell phone its proper respect. When this phone was released, it was the smallest phone on the market and was very popular for several years. Another little known fact, this was the first phone to feature the often underused vibrate feature!

Number 9- Motorola i860 for Nextel

The Motorola i860 was the first cell phone on the IDEN network that featured a camera phone. This phone is probably my favorite one for the Nextel/ IDEN network line of phones. It also features multi media messenging, the highly coveted walkie-talkie feature and a GPS feature that allows you to be found if you get lost in the woods on a camping trip.

Well, two down and eight to go. Agree? Disagree with my choices so far? Leave me some comments in the feedback section.
